Printers for RPC-80

Redpost RPC-80 printer/chargers require a commercial off the shelf printer to enable direct printing. This page should make it easier to select a compatible printer for your RPC-80, however if you are having trouble finding a printer, Redpost is able to supply printers that have been tested for compatibility.

USB vs Centronics

Current RPC-80 printer/chargers have a USB port to connect to a printer, however older models were shipped with a Centronics port. Centronics printers are still available , however manufacturers are only producing a handful of models which tend to be higher cost. The list below has a selection of compatible Centronics printers, however you may wish to consider replacing your RPC-80 with a newer USB version.

Printer Command Language

Through the lifetime of the RPC-80 several different printer languages have been supported, however the only one that is currently supported is PCL. If you have an older RPC-80 with a Centronics port then you may need a firmware upgrade before using a PCL printer.

Types of PCL

The RPC-80 uses only a subset of PCL commands and the minimum version of PCL supported by the RPC-80 is PCL3.

However the following versions are also compatible:

  • PCL4
  • PCL5
  • PCL5c
  • PCL5e
  • PCL5 enhanced
  • PCL6 (Standard)
Not Compatible:
  • PCL3 GUI
  • PCL3 enhanced
  • PCL6 Enhanced
  • PCL XL

Manufacturers

HP

HP No longer manufactures any compatible printers. Although technically compatible they will not work with the RPC-80. Older printers manufactured by HP may be compatible.

Lexmark

Older Lexmark USB printers are only compatible with version 'V' or greater of the RPC-80 firmware. Centronics printers from Lexmark should be compatible with version 'q' of the older RPC-80.
